What are the Symptoms of Roundworms in Dogs?
There are many different signs and symptoms that you may see in a dog with roundworm infestation. These are some common symptoms:

What are the Causes of Roundworm in Dogs?
Your dog can get roundworms in many different ways. These are some of the most common ways that your dog would get roundworm infestations.
Eating Soil: If your dog is eating the dirt, they can get roundworms. Roundworm eggs are passed out in a dog’s stool and can survive for months in the soil. If your dog is eating grass or soil, they can quickly and easily infect themselves.
Walking on contaminated soil: Your dog can even get roundworms from walking on infected soil. These worms can penetrate your dog’s skin on their feet and enter their body.
Eating other animals: If your dog is known for eating prey animals, they can catch roundworms if this animal is also infected with roundworms.
In puppies, this is a very common parasite for puppies to have. They can get it from their mother when unborn or through their milk.
By keeping your dog’s area clean and preventing them from eating things that they should not eat, you can keep them from getting roundworms.

How to Prevent Roundworm in dogs
You can easily prevent roundworms in your dog by providing your dog with regular deworming.  Also, make sure that your yard is clean of dog poop.  If your dog does have roundworms, it is best to clean this up for a few days after giving them a dewormer to prevent your dog from reinfection.

Take fuury out – Since your furry has been stuck in one position and wants to sit up, I usually open the top flap of her carrier and wheel her around on top of my carryon.
Let your furry use the bathroom – My best advice? Look up. There are usually signs that show you were your animal can use the toilet in the airport.

Before You Bring Your Dog on a Plane
Get your dog used to their pet carrier.
Walk your dog. A tired dog is a good dog.
Bring a crunchy treat to help your dog’s ears.
Make sure you have all necessary paperwork.
Pack all essentials like food, treats, and medicines in your carryon.
Have an airline approved dog carrier.
Have a clip on foldable dog water/food bowl.
Give your dog some CBD or hemp oil to calm them down.

What To Do At The Airport
Present yourself, your pooch, and your paperwork at the airline counter.
The desk clerk will usually inspect all of the above to make sure regulations are followed.
Pay the pet fee and be on your merry way.

The Kennel Club uses seven different dog breed groups, and all breeds belong to just one of these groups. While not always similar in temperament or appearance, the breeds within each group share some characteristics that makes them suitable for categorisation. Here we take a look at the groups in more detail, but you can skip to the required section too:

• Gundog

• Pastoral

• Working

• Hound

• Utility

• Terrier

• Toy

Gundog Group
As the name simply suggests, the breeds in this group were originally used and trained to be used for hunting, and some still are today. Whether it’s to find or retrieve game, these dogs have good noses, hearing and sight. Containing breeds such as the Cocker Spaniel, Labrador Retriever and the Springer Spaniel, they make lovely family pets.

Pastoral Group
Containing energetic and hardy dogs, the Pastoral group is the term used for breeds that are used for working with livestock. Capable of working long hours and surviving in harsh conditions, they are used in various countries for cattle, sheep or reindeer. Including dogs such as the Border Collie and German Shepherd Dog, these breeds are suitable for those who have plenty of time for exercise.

Working Group
This breed group is one that confuses many, as a huge number of dogs can work but not all are included here. Often the ones that are included are larger breeds that have been used to help people, whether it’s guarding them, guiding them or helping with tasks such as search and rescue. While some breeds are still used for such tasks today, dogs such as the Boxer, Dobermann and Great Dane are now more common as pets.

Hound Group
Containing a wide range of hounds with different appearances, this group includes breeds that were used for hunting by scent or sight. Each dog will likely have one of these useful traits, but beyond that it is difficult to characterise them all. For example, dogs with this breed group include the Greyhound, Dachshund and Beagle, all of which have a completely different appearance.

Utility Group
The Utility group is one that contains a selection of breeds, many of which don’t fit in other groups, but that are defined as having ‘fitness for a purpose’. This means that they were still often bred to perform a useful function, but many of them have now become redundant. It includes varied breeds from the Shih Tzu to Dalmatians and the Bulldog to Poodles.

Terrier Group
Bred to be tough, active and willing to do the ‘dirty work’, terriers’ original function was to chase and catch vermin, something that is still inherent in these breeds today. Often used by farmers to catch mice, rats and even larger pests, they sometimes were even required to go underground to perform their duties. Now they are extremely popular pets, including the West Highland White Terrier and Border Terrier.

Toy Group
Containing the smallest dog breeds, many dogs within the Toy breed group have been bred to be the size they are today. Often dating back centuries, they were often a symbol of wealth and status and were used as companion dogs. In many ways this has not changed, with breeds such as the Pug or Pomeranian being used as something of a symbol.

By deciding what breed group best suits you, it can help to make the choice of breed much easier. While not all dogs will have the same group traits, they are likely to be similar so you can best choose which dog suits your lifestyle and requirements.

There are so many perks to owning pets that we couldn’t possibly list them all. But hairballs definitely aren’t one of them! These slimy clumps of matted fur are probably well known to the cat owners amongst you, and have most likely been discovered when wandering around the house in your bare feet. Hairballs are generally harmless, but in certain animals can be fatal and should be treated with caution and prevented if possible.

Hairballs are mostly found in cats, although they do also occur in rabbits. Both these animals self groom in similar ways, and their tongues cause them to pick up dead fur and swallow it. As hair isn’t digested properly, it often ends up becoming knotted in the stomach, from where it’s vomited back up. Unfortunately rabbits lack this regurgitation mechanism, and hairballs in this animal can be fatal, causing dehydration and death. If you suspect your rabbit has a hairball, then seek veterinary help immediately.

They are far less fatal in cats, although they can be uncomfortable and can lead to problems if not treated. If your cat is prone to hairballs, then prevention is key to your animal’s health. We’ve listed below some of the easiest ways to prevent hairballs.

Regular Grooming – This is particularly important during shedding season, as the cold weather warms up and your cat sheds their thick winter coat. Daily grooming of your cat, especially those with longer fur, removes excess hair and vastly reduces the quantity that they will swallow after cleaning. Even during the summer months, daily brushing will not only help you bond with your cat, but will greatly reduce the build up of hair in their stomachs.

Hydration – Ensure your cat has a ready supply of clean drinking water. The more hydrated your cat is, the easier it is for their digestion to work and remove fur that’s found it’s way into their stomachs, allowing it to pass naturally through their bodies without building up into a hairball.

High Quality Dry Feed – Maintaining good levels of fibre in your cat’s diet ensures a healthy digestive system that is moving regularly, reducing the chances of hair build up. You can even buy food that is specifically formulated to prevent hairballs in the stomach, particularly useful if your cat suffers from them regularly.

Lubricant Gel – If you have a cat who, despite regular grooming, still suffers from hairballs, then specialist gel/paste can be used to prevent hair from sticking in their stomach. These are often flavoured and make a tasty treat for your cat, and some contain a probiotic to optimise the health of your cat’s digestive system.

Reducing the occurrence of hairballs doesn’t take much work, and will greatly increase the comfort of your cat (and your bare feet in the morning!). If you’ve tried the above and your cat is still suffering from regular hairballs, then speak to your vet as there may be underlying causes.
